It's Getting Watery In Here

4 Signs Your Water Heater Needs To Be Replaced

Your water heater is responsible for providing you with toasty, warm showers in the winter months, as well as keeping your hands from being frigid every time you go to turn on the sink to wash your hands or do the dishes.

With all that water being used day after day, your water heater can be prone to malfunctioning, especially once it reaches the end of its life after about ten years. But how do you know if it needs to be replaced? Here are four signs that you need to call in a contractor for your water heater.

1. There's Water All Over the Floor

If your water heater is leaking, it means that pressure isn't being released from the tank properly. This can be dangerous because it sometimes leads to the pressure increasing to the point of the tank exploding.

To prevent this from happening, contact a plumber to have it turned off so they can make necessary repairs, or to have the entire unit replaced.

2. You Can Hear Pinging Sounds

As sediment builds up at the base of the tank, it creates a thick layer that puts stress on the water heater over time. This can lead to your tank life expiring sooner than expected, as your water heater has to work twice as hard to warm up water inside of the tank.

You may find this happens more frequently if your tank is located in a cold part of your house, so if you are having a new home built, you may want to have it placed in a warmer location.

3. It's Not Heating Water Anymore

You may be having issues with your thermometer if you find that all of your water is running cold. If it has kept the water warm at first and you're just running out of hot water sooner than you expected, it's possible that you need to find a different water heater to suit your output needs. Talk to your plumber about your daily water requirements and they can help you find the perfect tank size.

4. Your Water Tastes Funny

If you go to make a warm cup of tea and you notice it tastes off, it may be due to the water being polluted. Stop using the water immediately and have someone look at your tank to make sure it's fully sealed.
