3 Signs You Need A Plumber For Water Heater Repairs

In most cases, the majority of the homeowners who need water heater repairs usually wait until their water heaters break down entirely before they consider calling a plumber to fix the heater.

However, it is essential to note that before a water heater breaks down entirely, it will give you several warning signs that indicate it is malfunctioning and probably on the verge of breaking down. As a result, it is essential to learn about the various warning signs a water heater provides so that you can call a plumber to conduct the necessary repairs before the water heater completely breaks down.

With that said, here are three warning signs that indicate you need to call a plumber for water heater repairs.

Fluctuating Water Temperature

It is essential to note that as your water heater gets older or starts to malfunction, you will start noticing fluctuations in the temperature of the water coming from the water heater. In most cases, fluctuating water temperatures occur due to the heating elements coated by mineral deposits. As a result, the mineral deposit coating prevents thermal energy from heating the water.

Sometimes you may get hot water, while at different times, the water may be lukewarm. Hence when you notice that your water temperature keeps fluctuating, it is advisable to call a plumber to check on your water heater.

Low Water Pressure

In addition to coating the heating elements in your water heater, mineral deposits can also accumulate in water heaters to the point they create a blockage in the pipes that deliver hot water from the water heater to your faucets.

In such an instance, the over-accumulation of mineral deposits restricts the amount of water flowing through your pipes from the water heater. And as a result, the restriction reduces hot water pressure.

Unfortunately, suppose you ignore the drops in hot water pressure for a long time. In that case, there is a chance that the mineral deposits will continue accumulating in your pipes until a clog occurs, whereby no water hot water will be able to reach your faucets.

Thus, as soon as you notice slight drops in water pressure, you should call a plumber to fix the issue before it gets worse.

Signs of Corrosion

As a water heater starts to age, it is prone to start getting corroded. Two main signs that indicate your water heater is corroding include:

  • Metallic taste in hot water, which is a sign that indicates the corrosion has already begun.
  • Brown/discolored water indicates severe corrosion.

Corrosion is a serious issue because it leads to the wearing out of your hot water tank prematurely. Thus, as soon as you notice signs of corrosion, you must call a plumber immediately to fix the issue before your tank gets permanently damaged.
